Compare / MHP vs. ezCater

MHP vs. ezCater. Two different jobs.

ezCater is a marketplace that connects you to thousands of restaurants for individual catering orders. MHP is one kitchen running one menu rotation as a recurring program. Both work — for different kinds of workplace food needs.

The core difference

One is a marketplace. The other is one kitchen. The model determines almost everything else.

ezCater = marketplace

Thousands of restaurants across the country. You browse, pick a restaurant, place an order. ezCater facilitates the transaction; the restaurant cooks and delivers. New menu every time you order, if you want.

MHP = single operator

One kitchen in Rancho Cucamonga. One rotating menu. One delivery team. Each recurring program runs the same way every week — same recipes, same standards, same number to call.

ezCater = order events

Built around individual ordering occasions. You order Tuesday for Wednesday, then again next week. Each order is its own transaction at its own restaurant at its own price.

MHP = standing program

Built around recurring cadence. Set the program once — days, headcount, menu tier — and it runs. One monthly invoice, one menu rotation, one set of standards.

When MHP fits better

For the standing program.

If you're feeding the same team on the same days every week — anchor-day office lunch, a multi-shift plant, a 24/7 fulfillment site — MHP is built for that cadence. Same kitchen, same recipes, every week. Lower per-meal cost than ordering eight separate ezCater drops a month.

  • Eight or more service days a month
  • Consistent menu rotation, not a different restaurant each week
  • Multi-shift or 24/7 workforce needing fridge coverage
  • One invoice, one kitchen, one contact

When ezCater fits better

For the one-off order.

If you need lunch for a board meeting once a quarter, a different restaurant for each one, or you're ordering occasional catering for a small team where variety is the point — ezCater is the cleaner answer. Their marketplace model is built around individual order events, not standing programs.

  • One-off events, not a recurring program
  • Restaurant variety matters more than consistency
  • Small headcount or infrequent need
  • Multi-city offices on different regional restaurant scenes

Common questions

Is ezCater cheaper than MHP per order? +
For one-off orders, often comparable or slightly cheaper. For recurring programs (8+ service days a month), MHP typically lands at lower per-meal cost because the operator is built for the cadence, not running each delivery as a fresh project.
Can I run a recurring program through ezCater? +
You can schedule recurring orders, but each one is still routed to a restaurant. Menu, quality, and on-time delivery vary order to order. The structural model — one operator, one menu rotation, one set of standards — is what makes recurring programs work.
What about ezCater Relish (their managed program)? +
Relish is ezCater's managed individual-meal program. It works on the same marketplace foundation — each meal comes from a different restaurant — but with more management layer. For a single-kitchen, single-kitchen program, the structural difference still applies.
Do you serve outside Southern California? +
No. MHP cooks every meal at one kitchen in Rancho Cucamonga and serves Greater LA, the Inland Empire, and Orange County. For multi-region or out-of-state needs, ezCater's national footprint fits better.
